M.O.M.S. (Mothers of Murdered Sons and Daughters of Kentucky) is an anti-gun violence support and advocacy group founded by Kenneth Forbes, Sr. in 2016.
On December 23, 2012, Kenneth Forbes, Jr. was shot and killed in the Shively neighborhood. Kenneth Forbes, Sr’s life was turned upside down in a moment. As he arrived at the murder scene, news crews captured his despair for the world to see.
For years, Forbes wrestled with the grief alone. He decided to use his story to help others not walk through the process alone. In 2016, as the trial for his son’s murder finally ended, he formed M.O.M.S. as a grassroots effort to deal with the issues in Louisville’s neighborhoods.

Today, M.O.M.S. works with community leaders, like-minded organizations, and hundreds of people to wrap their arms around loved ones affected by gun violence.
Each month, the group meets to share their grief, build community and find a way forward. M.O.M.S. also hosts public events and has become a leader in the fight to radically reduce gun violence in Louisville.
Mothers of Murdered Sons and Daughters of Kentucky is governed by a passionate and persistent group of individuals fighting to end gun violence in Louisville.
