Article by Louisville Story Program
Each gun-related death is avoidable. We’re working to put an end to the cycle of violence in our streets using community-based solutions.
Gun violence is a generational plague wreaking havoc on families in West Louisville. In December 2012, Kenneth Forbes witnessed this firsthand when his son was murdered.
Kenneth and the hundreds of M.O.M.S. won’t rest until other parents are safe experiencing this unique trauma. We work with community leaders, policymakers and police officers to create a West Louisville safe from gun violence.

Radically reducing gun violence in West Louisville is only possible through legislative efforts at the local, state and federal levels.
Our goal is to work with local and state leaders to implement policies that protect the community and citizens’ rights.
Through building strategic relationships with policymakers, educating them on the impacts of guns on our constituents and pushing for community-based solutions, real change can be realized.
We stand for a commonsense approach toward ending the gun violence epidemic through policy, education and community organization.
Confiscated firearms should be destroyed, not auctioned off and reintroduced to our neighborhoods.
We need to keep dangerous weapons off our streets and out of schools.
The gun ownership age should be raised to 21. This will create a safer environment for our kids to learn.
492 people unintentionally die by gun in an average year. Responsible gun ownership starts with education.
To end generational cycles of violence, we must provide our kids with the opportunity and resources to thrive.
Police officers play a role in creating safer neighborhoods. An increased police presence will deter violent crime.

M.O.M.S. is building relationships built on trust with residents in West Louisville and the LMPD officers serving them.
Through creating an environment of shared understanding, we can work together on common solutions with a shared purpose of ending gun violence.
Each day, we are supporting loved ones, bringing awareness to our cause and working to reduce gun violence through legislation. See more »
